The Game is Not Moral Monopoly and Jesus is not a get out of Hell Free Card

Why such a strange title you may ask. During these past weeks several people have questioned Brian’s acceptance of Jesus’ death on the Cross as the Sin offering for his Salvation. Both Rick and I look upon this as this modern day effort by hyper-dispensationalists without any respect towards their own behavior or personnel piety. Our Sin offering Jesus Christ is only accepted if we repent of our sins and ask that the Sacrifice of Jesus be accepted by Adonai (The Lord God Most High) as our offering for attoment of our sins there by fulfilling the commandment to offer Sacrifice to him under the requirements of Leviticus 9:1-4
1. And it came to pass on the eighth day, that Moses called Aaron and his sons, and the elders of Israel;
2. And he said unto Aaron, Take thee a young calf for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering, without blemish, and offer them before the LORD.
3. And unto the children of Israel thou shalt speak, saying, Take ye a kid of the goats for a sin offering; and a calf and a lamb, both of the first year, without blemish, for a burnt offering;
4. Also a bullock and a ram for peace offerings, to sacrifice before the LORD; and a meat offering mingled with oil: for to day the LORD will appear unto you

Many Christians are taught and some through there own Christian Cultural understanding after reading the New Testament are lead to believe that Jesus’ Death on the Cross was to absolve them of the Sin’s committed by Adam. This in fact is true but only if you understand that the word Adam in Hebrew is not just a proper name for that being created in the Garden of Eden, but literally translated the word Adam means Man. For one to believe that Jesus died on the Cross for the Sin’s of the first Man, is absurd on it’s face, why then would Adonai (The Lord God Most High) have given the people of Israel 623 Commandments to comply with?

In the past 12 weeks through the series on Saul of Tarsus we have tried to address this misconception based on Talmudic teaching that Gentiles only have to live by 7 Noahide Laws and not the 613 Commandments of the Torah given by Adonai (The Lord God Most High) and followed by Jesus Christ the Jewish Messiah.

This is a misconception of gaining salvation from Jesus’ death as our sin offering, he is the sin offering for all men, if one accepts him as such one must first acknowledge what a sin is before Adonai (The Lord God Most High) which are not only given in the 10 commandments, but the 613 additional commandments given on Mt. Sani to the people of Israel by Adonai. For one to not understand or even care that they may be continuing to commit Sins before the Lord by not following the WILL of Adonai in these 613 Mitzvoth is a misunderstanding of the Torah.

Every year on Rosh Hashanah the Jewish New Year there is a 10 day period between the New Year and the Day of Atonement Yom Kippur. This is a time that we are given to take retrospect of the Sins we committed during the previous year. It is a time when we are to ask forgiveness from Adonai. It is a time when we need to seek Jesus to intercede on our behalf, much how Aaron was directed to do when he performed the Sacrifices in the Temple for forgiveness of our sins.

One thing Christians fail to understand is that it wasn’t just about the sacrifice it is all about the repentance for the Sins you have committed before Adonai. Sin in a simple form is failing to follow any of God’s directions. We are so busy looking at or calling it Law. What it really boils down to is will you follow what I have told you to do or will you do whatever you chose.

Remember after Jesus confronted the men who were about to stone the prostitute and gaining her release by telling them let he who is without Sin cast the first stone, Jesus did not tell her go and sin all you want I have you covered, Jesus instructed her to go and sin not more.

Saul of Tarsus, son of Benjamin Part 11

In concluding this series on Saul of Tarsus, We would like to expand on one final topic. Through out the weeks of this series we kept bringing up two very important scriptures that are in direct conflict with Saul’s teachings.
At the start of this series we addressed where Saul’s roots came from, and the facts of his life as an educated Jew in Law both the Oral (Talmud) and the written (Torah).

Saul being well versed in both tried to use the same principles of the Oral Law (Talmud) much like the Rabbi’s do to this day to claim, that Gentiles are absolved of the 613 Mitzvoth of the written Torah and only need to follow the 7 Noahide Laws. No matter how much we try to fit Gentiles into this category it still rings false. The Gentiles we can place in that category are those who live there life in righteous behavior and ones who do not accept Jesus as their Messiah.

Were we find the conflict is within these two scriptures the first one can be found in Leviticus Chapter 24:22 “Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one of your own country: for I am the LORD your God.” For further clarification of this topic Adonai expanded this in Numbers 15:15-16 “One ordinance shall be both for you of the congregation, and also for the stranger that sojourneth with you, an ordinance for ever in your generations: as ye are, so shall the stranger be before the LORD. One law and one manner shall be for you, and for the stranger that sojourneth with you.” In this to us there is no middle ground if one accepts Jesus as the Messiah and the Sacrifice for their Sins. He is the Sin offering before Adonai (The Lord God Most High) and to comply with both of these scriptures means one has accepted to follow the 613 Mitzvoth of Torah period.
Our final analysis concludes with these words spoken by Jesus the Messiah to the people of Israel. Which are found in Matthew Chapter 7:21-23 21 Not every one who is saying to me Lord, lord, shall come into the reign of the heavens; but he who is doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, lord, have we not in thy name prophesied? and in thy name cast out demons? and in thy name done many mighty things? 23 and then I will acknowledge to them, that -- I never knew you, depart from me ye who are working lawlessness. Jesus is clearly telling his Jewish followers to continue being compliant with the 613 Mitzvoth of Torah. In his death he will be there physical Sacrifice before Adonai (The Lord God Most High) for all their sins forever and ever, and that non-compliance still requires repentance and has consequences for those actions.

Saul of Tarsus, son of Benjamin Part 10

Last week we ended our decisions on 1st Timothy with Chapter 3, this week we wish to continue where we left off.

In the first part of Chapter 4 we see Saul, expressing his belief of things that will come about in the future of the Church. We have chosen to address the topic of the Kosher Laws Saul addresses in verses 3, 4, and 5 about the animals which are clean vs. those that Adonai (The Lord God Most High) deemed unclean in the 613 Mitzvoth.

It is our belief that Adonai (The Lord God Most High) deemed those animals to be unclean for the safety and health of his people. To make there lives longer and keep then from the diseases that these animals carry, thus alleviating premature death of the people of Israel. We really need to expand on our thoughts here we are not saying that the Law doesn’t apply, but what we are saying is that they should only eat those foods they could trust in a non static desert environment. Take the example of matzo or unleavened bread. Yeast is a bacteria which can cause infections and in certain conditions death, and can also cause otherwise good liquids to become alcohol. Alcohol can be extremely dangerous in the desert.

Next take a look at Chapter 4:13, He tells Timothy to continue the public reading of the Scriptures, This means that he has been receiving all these questions based on the Torah Scriptures which he is preaching on, please make no mistake he is not telling him to read the New Testament Scriptures as they were not in existence at the time. Again Saul is leading Timothy to continue teaching about and from the Torah. Through Saul’s mentoring of the younger Timothy he is leading him through Oral Talmud traditions that are still followed by Rabbi’s to this day, that Gentiles are absolved from following the 613 Mitzvoth of Torah (Written Law). While as we have pointed out several times in Numbers 15:15-16, God was pretty explicit that there is only one law For Jew as well as Gentile who offer burnt offerings before him.

In Chapter 5 it gets a little perplexing Saul deals with a question about Widows. What is so perplexing about this is that only within the 613 Mitzvoth of Torah does it require the community to care for the needs of the Widow. So why does Saul make such a point about this subject since to Saul the Gentiles were not required to follow the same 613 Mitzvoth in the Torah which he has made such arguments against Peter for his belief, and Saul’s insistence that Gentile followers of Jesus only need to follow the 7 Noahide Laws. The perplexing thing is that the Noahide Law says absolutely nothing about caring for the Widows. The fact is even the Noahide Laws can only be found in the Talmud (Oral Law) and again holds to our point that even though the Talmud may not have been a written document at the time is was well taught as the Oral Law and the Holy interpretations of the Torah.

To us this is yet but one more example of Saul’s elitists Jewish teachings and even to this day current Jewish theology that Gentiles only need to follow these 7 Noahide Laws to be considered righteous, while ignoring the verses in Numbers 15:15-16. To us why even respond this way to any question of caring for the Widow, if those Laws never apply to Gentiles anyway. Why not just tell them that it doesn’t apply to them, as Saul did concerning the commandment for circumcision.

Saul of Tarsus, son of Benjamin Part 9

This week we want to take you through an exploration of the letters written by Saul. For the purpose of this series we are going to concentrate on 1st Timothy for our discussions. Understand we only have the answers given by Saul, in order to understand the answer we must take a look and try to extrapolate the questions form the answers.

As an example in 1 Timothy Chapter 1:4 Saul rights to Timothy “nor to give heed to fables and endless genealogies, that cause questions rather than the building up of God that is in faith”, This is an obvious response to questions posed by Timothy to Saul as to the conflicting Genealogies of Jesus in the Gospels of Mark and Matthew. Certainly no other Genealogies listed in the Torah would have led to this conflict, with the possible exception of someone challenging Timothy as to his, and for that matter Saul’s genealogy not being Levites. There by questioning their very authority to teach.

Next we look at the questions in Chapter 3 Saul is giving directions on what it takes to be a leader in the Church, he is basing these on Talmudic requirements to be a leader in the synagogue or a member of the Sanhedrin.

A point we feel is necessary to address is Chapter 3:16 where Saul claims God to have manifested in the Flesh. We find no evidence of this being stated in the Torah or the prophecies to this being a fact, and quite the contrary. In trying to explain the thought process behind this we must look to the words of Jesus, in my Father’s Kingdom are many mansions. Notice how Jesus refers to the Kingdom of Adonai (The Lord God Most High). Jesus never claimed to be Adonai. He claimed to be the Son of Adonai (The Lord God Most High). It was always meant to be understood that the Messiah was to be the Prince of Peace. He stated he would sit at the Right hand of the Father, in the seat of the Prince not the throne of Adonai (The Lord God Most High). In Isaiah 9:6 “For a Child hath been born to us, A Son hath been given to us, And the princely power is on his shoulder, And He doth call his name Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Father of Eternity, Prince of Peace.” Jesus continuously referred to the KINGDOM OF HEAVEN of which he is the prince not the King. Confirming this through Ezekiel 45:17 “And on the prince are the burnt-offerings, and the present, and the libation, in feasts, and in new moons, and in Sabbaths, in all appointed times of the house of Israel: he doth make the sin-offering, and the present, and the burnt-offering, and the peace-offerings, to make atonement for the house of Israel.” Note that herein lays a complete list of all the times and ceremonies in which the Jewish people were to make sacrifices, clearly stating that the Messiah would take the place of all these sacrifices. Which bears witness to our claim of last week that there is but one Law Numbers 15:15-16 to Jew and Gentile who gives burnt offerings up to Adonai (The Lord God Most High).

Saul of Tarsus, son of Benjamin Part 8

I recently had the opportunity to meet and listen to a lecture given by Dr. Amy-Jill Levine at Austin College several weeks ago. Dr. Levine is a Levi and a Professor of New Testament Studies at Vanderbilt University, and the author of the book “The Misunderstood Jew”. I posed several questions to Dr. Levine and here response was quite interesting.

First of all I explained this series and ask her what she taught about the concept of Saul’s teachings and how they related to the Talmud and his inability to separate the two.

The second question was if she thought Jesus was a Kabbalah Master.

Both of her answers to my questions came from a historical point of view. She explained that there is no historical data to prove that the Talmud existed, and the Kabbalah was not in existence, for 1000 years after the death of Jesus, although she was of the belief that Jesus was a mystical Jew.

After thinking and praying over her answers, I felt an understanding that it was more of semantics. We have found no evidence that concurs with her belief, but quite the opposite from all the research we have done it proves that the first written Talmudic interpretations of the Torah were composed and compiled during the Babylonian exile and was taught as the Oral interruption of the Torah long before the second Temple was rebuilt, and long before Jesus birth. Secondly through the Kabbalah and associated books were not written until well after the Death and resurrection it’s principles and teachings known as Mystical Judaism were passed from Master to student for many generations before Jesus, who do you think the three wise men were, who arrived to pay homage at Jesus’ birth.

I would like to expand on another topic she touched on briefly, and that was that Christians are taught to believe Jews have no concept of a Graceful God, and that the God they believe in can show no Mercy. Which leads me into the topic for this week, when we left off last week we posed the question of Justice and Consequences.

When Moses came down from Mt Sinai Adonai gave him 613 Mitzvot (“Thou Shall and Thou Shall Not”) within those 613 Mitzvot are moral directions for the Tribes of Israel to guide their lives around. Moses was then told to tell the people of Israel what to do in order to receive the Grace and Mercy of the Lord should they ever disobey any of these 613 Mitzvot, there by committing a Sin in the eyes of Adonai (The Lord God Most High) In doing so he enabled us to repent of our sins, The Mitzvot are very clear in Torah what to bring to the Temple and have sacrificed if one were to have committed a sin, upon being repentant and through your sacrifice offering you would then receive the Mercy and Grace of Adonai (The Lord God Most High).

So in Jesus’ death on the Cross we received the Mercy and Grace of Adonai, Jesus being the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. What sins? Again gentiles had no knowledge of what Adonai considered to be a sin. A sin in the eyes of Adonai (The Lord God Most High) was only created if one failed to comply with the 10 Commandments and the 613 Mitzvoth given to us by Moses. We then pose this question if the physical sacrifice requirements were not in place during the lives of Abraham, Isaac or Jacob, and the gentiles do not come under Torah Law, then how could they possibly sin, and if one cannot sin, then what would one need Salvation from?

Therefore since this thought process creates a conundrum then we must take the opposite tack since we know that Saul, was sent to spread the news to the gentiles then we must see that Christ intended for him to first teach the gentiles what it is to sin, i.e. Torah, in order for them to receive salvation from it.

Saul was under the belief that gentiles came under the covenant of Abraham, and not the Torah, which was only for the Jew, but as we Pointed out last week in Number chapter 15:15-16 Adonai (The Lord God Most High) instructed Moses to tell the Children of Israel, that there is but one law for Jew and Gentile who would make Sacrifice (Burnt offerings) to him. In addition the Abrahamic covenant required circumcision.

This is our explanation for Peter’s belief (the Rock in which Jesus would build his community), that if you take Jesus as the perfect sacrifice to Adonai (The Lord God Most High), then you are accepting him as a Sacrifice (Burnt Offering) to Adonai and fall under Numbers Chapter 15:15-16 and are required to follow the 613 Mitzvot Adonai (The Lord God Most High) presented to the Children of Israel through Moses.

Even though we accept Jesus as the ultimate Sacrifice for our sins, we should not be misguided into thinking that through him we will be granted Adonai’ Mercy and Grace just because we have accepted him as the Messiah, or believe that in doing so there are no Consequences or we will not receive Justice at Adonai’ hands for our failure to follow the 613 Mitzvot given to us through Moses. Again refer to what Jesus taught in Matthew Chapter 7:21-23.
